Alphabet has received a significant boost in its bid to generate significant value in the global artificial intelligence market, which is projected to be worth $990 billion by 2027. Snap is the latest company to take note of the investments and efforts it has made to refine its artificial intelligence models.
Snapchat Taps Google’s AI Model
The giant social networking company has confirmed using Google’s generative artificial intelligence model to power its AI chatbot. The integration is part of the networking company to bolster engagement levels and increase the time people spend using its messaging app.
Snap is one of the companies that have resorted to artificial intelligence as it looks to strengthen its competitive edge in the highly competitive landscape. The company is under immense pressure from the Meta platform, one of the heavyweights increasingly leveraging AI to bolster its apps’ engagement levels and attract more users.
Snap initially launched its My AI chatbot a year ago, employing AI models from OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT. However, the company has recently incorporated Gemini, as Google’s extensive language model has the ability to handle video, audio and text at the same time. This capability is crucial since Snapchat’s audience frequently engages through videos and pictures, in addition to text.
Since adopting Alphabet’s Gemini, Snap has experienced nearly triple the level of interaction from users sharing photos and videos with its AI-powered chatbot on its messaging app. Gemini edge stems from offering a more intuitive method for individuals to communicate. Additionally, Alphabet’s AI model is expected to enable Snap to introduce new functionalities, such as translating foreign menu items or recognizing plant species from a single image.
The integration of Gemini was much easier as Snap already utilizes Google Cloud’s cloud services to support its networking app, which boasts 850 million monthly active users. Snap is already contemplating leveraging the Gemini AI model on other features, including its spectacles smart glasses.
Snap integrating the Gemini AI model should assist Google in attracting new users and enhancing its AI algorithms. Additionally, it should strengthen the tech giant’s competitive edge and push for market share around AI-related services and products poised to grow by between 40% and 55% annually.
AI Systems Growth
The growth is fuelled by more advanced AI systems and bigger data centers for their training and operation, propelled by businesses and governments leveraging the technology to enhance productivity. On the other hand, the strong demand overburden supply chains for parts, such as microchips, which are essential for the services. In addition to geopolitical conflicts, increasing demand could lead to shortages in semiconductors, personal computers, and smartphones, Bain cautioned.
Businesses are progressing from a trial stage to expanding the use of AI throughout their operations. Smaller language models, akin to the large language models that resulted in the development of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, but more compact and practical, might be preferred by organizations and nations due to worries about expenses and data security.
Similarly, countries are increasingly allocating billions of dollars to support national AI, investing in local computing infrastructure and AI models developed within their territories and trained on their own data. However, creating thriving national AI ecosystems will be a lengthy and costly endeavor.
